Inspired partly by Hockney's multi panel tree paintings, also painted plein air, and by Georgia O'Keefe. This work was painted in one sitting, entirely at the side of a lake, Lago Barasona, Spain.
By midsummer, the lake had flooded high up, and the poplars were happily dancing in the wind of an approaching thunderstorm. I only just completed the second panel in time, as the sky darkened and rain started to fall.
Total size 152 x 120 x 2 cm ( two panels, each 76 x 60 x 2cm). Oil paint on canvas. Signed on bottom right panel. Edges painted white, ready to hang.
